Over the years, he has played in numerous bands and is now the dynamic frontman of The Scalawags. With The Scalawags, Russell breathes new life into obscure classics while also performing his original compositions, creating unforgettable musical experiences.

Russell’s Sauces Timeline
Cochon du Lait Pig Roast
1974 was the start of Russell’s Sauces journey, when Russell was tasked with creating a barbecue sauce for a large Cajun Cochon di Lait (pig roast) in Henderson, St. Martin Parish, Louisiana, planting the seeds for his quest to perfect the very best barbecue sauce possible.
Russell Perfects His Recipe
After 14 years of trial and error, perfecting his recipe. The result was an exquisite blend of sweet, hot, savory and sour with just the right cayenne heat to satisfy his palate.
Russell began producing his homemade barbecue sauce which became popular at events, farmers markets and specialty grocers.
Blue Ribbons
Russell wowed everyone at the first annual Calistoga Barbecue Festival, winning both the People’s Choice Award, voted by attendees, and the Chef’s Choice Award, judged by top chefs from the Culinary Institute of America.
These coveted blue ribbon awards solidified Russell’s barbecue sauce as a favorite in the barbecue world.
Returning to His Roots
In 1998, Russell returned to Lafayette, Louisiana, where he had once attended the University of Louisiana at Lafayette (formerly USL).
Driven by his passion for creating the perfect barbecue sauce, he set up production in the heart of Cajun Country, using his years of knowledge and love for local Louisiana cuisine and ingredients.
Rekindling
Grieving the sudden loss of his wife, Chrisanne, Russell met Remi, who had also survived the loss of her husband.
Bonded by shared experiences and an undeniable connection, they found solace and joy in each other’s company.
Together, they honor their pasts and grow their love by merging their beloved families and pouring their passion into Russell’s Sauces. Through their love and hard work, they continue to work tirelessly to share the Russell’s creations with the world.

In addition to the support of Russell’s children, Russell’s wife Remi, a retired forensic auditor and Russell’s Sauces CFO, ensures its ongoing success and growth with her expertise and dedication.
Together, they work to grow Russell’s Sauces into a lasting legacy, driven by their shared love for great food and family tradition.
